About Us

The Weight Research Program is a behavioral research lab at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). We are affiliated with the UNC School of Public Health and the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Our goal is to conduct high quality research on the prevention and treatment of obesity.

The research program applies innovative and effective techniques for weight loss and weight maintenance.

The Program is directed by Deborah F. Tate, PhD, a clinical psychologist and faculty member in the UNC Departments of Health Behavior & Health Education and Nutrition. Dr. Tate has been studying innovative approaches to weight control for 15 years.

Our staff includes psychologists, registered dietitians, health behavior specialists and exercise physiologists.
