Lose Now NC Focus Groups
We are conducting a series of focus groups with people who are typically under-represented in weight loss programs. The purpose of this research is to help us understand how to attract these groups to a community weight loss program that we are conducting in Kannapolis and the surrounding areas.
We are interested in recruiting overweight adults between the ages of 18 and 65, specifically African-American men and women and men of any race. Please click on this link here to learn more about the focus groups and to complete some initial questions.
WEIGH Study
This 9-month study will examine careful tracking of weight using automated technology for weight loss in adults. Participants who qualify will receive information on how to better regulate food intake and physical activity using new self-monitoring technology.
Teen Weight Loss Study
The problem of overweight and obesity among adolescents is increasing. Adolescence is an important time to intervene on overweight because of increased medical and psychosocial consequences, and obesity that tracks into adulthood. The goal of this 8 session study is to examine the role of support in a group-based weight loss program.
Pod Study
This 6 month study delivers weight loss information via a podcast. A podcast is an audio file that is downloaded to your MP3 player, internet-capable phone, or computer.
Step Up Weight Loss Study
This 18 month study will examine methods to improve weight loss and exercise participation in healthy overweight men and women ages 18 to 55 years old.
PRESENCE Study
PRESENCE, or PREdicting SENsory and Control Effects of home console video games, is a study designed to investigate several types of video games.
CHOICE Study
This 6 month study focuses on making simple changes in the diets of healthy overweight men and women ages 18-65 in order to lose weight.
STOP Weight Gain
The rates of overweight and obesity are growing fastest in young adults aged 19-35. Individuals typically gain up to 30 pounds during this time period. Therefore, it is important to intervene early on and help people to prevent additional weight gain and get their weight under control before these larger weight gains occur. This study is examining different methods to prevent this weight gain in young men and women.
HEALTHeFAMILIES
Families in today’s society encounter numerous challenges as they try to promote healthy weight behaviors. The trends in overweight among children and the more recent research in the arena of parenting suggest that parents need help in maintaining healthy weight in their children. The goal of this study is to examine two internet-based behavioral intervention approaches designed to improve diet and increase physical activity of families.
HealthELife Study
The HealthELife program is a weight loss study for adults. Research participants use Palm Pilot food diaries and wireless uploading allowing therapists to view their food choices. Half of the subjects receive individualized therapy via e-mail feedback from their assigned therapist. The others receive group therapy through weekly on-line chat sessions lead by a therapist. The purpose is to compare the two forms of treatment therapy in the Internet setting.
WAY to Health
The WAY to Health program is targeting obesity at the worksite. The approaches include an environmental intervention, an environmental intervention plus an Internet intervention based on the Diabetes Prevention Program, and an environmental intervention plus the Internet intervention plus financial incentives tied to losing weight.
enerG
This study focuses on using Internet to help adolescent girls lose weight. Both groups receive traditional face-to-face group meetings. However, the experimental group is also given several Internet tools, including group chat sessions with a therapist, message boards, and e-mail feedback. The purpose is to test the Internet's effectiveness in the adolescent weight loss process.
