Translating Research into Health

The Weight Research Program is a behavioral research lab at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), affiliated with UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Our primary research interests lie in (a) developing and evaluating interventions for weight gain prevention, weight loss, and maintenance and (b) the translation of obesity prevention and treatment programs to community settings with the use of new technologies.

Health psychologist Deborah Tate, PhD, studies people's lifestyle choices to find out what it takes to get people to adopt healthier behaviors that can help prevent chronic disease. Her research focuses on improving weight-loss strategies and explores ways technology can help more people benefit from proven psychological interventions.
